Every day...rain, snow or wind I throw the ball for the "Girls". Cody and Lacy are Border Collies and anyone who have Border Collies know they love to run and play...working dogs. Now that I have a camera they are not too happy... moma takes time out of their playtime to capture a shot.

For the last two-months I have been busy taking classes from Jared Knight at http://jaredknight.ning.com/. He is an abstract painter, who has been painting all of his life. He is teaching the contemporary painting process and much more. This is my first painting from his second class. I am very happy with the end result. I do have to tell you all my DH loves my paintings and has offered to drive me 200 miles round-trip just so I can buy paint. Love the man!!!

Challenge 16 - Artarazzi

Vron has chosen a beautiful artwork by Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones for this weeks challenge at Artarazzi.

I kept my image very simple. To create this image I duplicated the image of the dancing ladies twice. The first layer I changed to Darken, Opacity at 85%; the second layer to Linear Burn, Opacity at 30%. For the background I added a door way from Stockxpert. For a misty feel I used “Water Brush” from Obsidian Dawn and finished the image by adding the moon also from Stockxpert.

Along with the challenge at Digital Art Quirks I created this image.

The challenge at Digital Art Quirks is “Where Nothing is Real” - Quirke #81, hosted by “Ozstuff” Marie. The challenge is to include in your image the following:

1. A paper moon or element moon
2. Head or heads on unmatching body
3. A tree made from papers or elements

I find this style of Digital Arts difficult to accomplish. I have friends who can do this type of style with one arm tied behind their back…I on the other hand struggle terribly. I hope you enjoy seeing my attempt.

January Art Journal - Day 7 & 8

Day 8: Soul Mate within - Self-Portrait
To create an expression of those parts within you that long to be whole unto itself ~ The soul mate within...the union of all opposites ~ The One.

I duplicated an image of an angel statue in Photoshop and reverse one of the images. Printed the images and glued them to the bottom of my pages. I then applied white colored pencil and black marker and then smeared the ink with my finger. Sometimes I used my hands rather then a brush or Q-tips. I am really pleased with the way this turned out. One of my favorite pages.

Millande at http://milliande.ning.com/ has been inspired by Misty Mawn to create a journal page for each day in January. I have decided to join in. If you want to play I have placed a link to the website; just click on the January Journal icon on the right side of the page.

Here is my first page for the January Art Journal - simple called Old Door - Old Year/New Door - New Year. The new door opens and I placed my 2009 New Years Resolutions.

This took me awhile to create considering I can’t find all my tools and inks. LOL!

Here is a peek of the faux finished wall my son painted. The technique he calls “The Pop Technique.” This technique creates dramatic texture; because I selected bold contrasting colors the effect was very dramatic.

Sill work on my loft (bookshelves are next).

I am currently remodeling my loft.

For Christmas, my son James is painting the wall in my studio/loft. He is visiting from Denver, Colorado; He works as a professional Faux Finisher. The wall before was dark and depressing (see photo).

My son is painting the wall using Benjamin Moore & Co. - “Pilgrimage Foliage” and “Forest Green“ over “Kittery Point Green”. More to come....

Parrot Fish Challenge at ArtArazzi

The third challenge at Artarazzi. Vron has chosen the following image and asked that that you try using different filters on your image to achieve two different looks.

The first image is created by using “Linear Light” on all of the fish layers.

The second image is created by using “Glowing Edges Filter”.

Window Challenge

The challenge at “Big Art Adventure” is window. Anything goes!

I used a dream box from “Art Chix Studio”, which I feel in love with the minute I saw them on her website studio. I painted the box with a combination of maroon, rust and blue inks. Adding the image from the Art Creations Friday’s 4th Challenge, and finished with a clock image.

Altered Puzzle Piece

Here is my altered child’s puzzle piece for The Paper Girls monthly challenge. The only stipulation is that it MUST include 'bling'!

Using the template provided I created this butterfly puzzle piece, I used glitter dimensional butterflies are from Daisy Hill and the paper is “Once upon a time” by DCWV. Using copper wiring I attached beads and more butterfly stickers.

This is a combination entry for two challenges - “Art Creations Friday” and “Big Art Adventure”

The second challenge at “Art Creations Friday” is to create a card or ATC or something you like with the picture provided. The picture provided is a background created with gesso and acryl paint. I used the background paper as the foundation for my Chunky ATC.

The challenge at “Big Art Adventure” is to create “Art Angels” and make them out of whatever you like.

Altered Tin

The challenge at The Awfully Big Art Adventure was to alter a tin. This is my first altered tin…not my last! I had trouble with my ink drying…this being my first time trying this technique of course it had to be difficult. So I applied a light coat of Gesso then Archival Ink “Maroon” using bubble wrap; let dry over night. Glued my images and applies several coats “Crackle” for an aged cracked finish. Needless to say the technique didn’t work. Grrrrrr. I plan on altering another tin…product advice welcomed!

The challenge at “Big Art Adventure” this week is to make a 3-D ATC using collage, paint, lace, words, embellishments - whatever you like! The dimensions would ideally be ATC-sized and roughly 1" thick. The block of wood came from my DH’s shop. (Thank you honey!)

This was fun…give them a try! More beautiful Chunky ATCs at “Big Art Adventure” - great inspiration.

MAKE A 3D HOUSE

The challenge at “Big Art Adventure” is to make a truly 3D house! Anything goes and the size is totally up to you - mine is 9" high and 5" wide. I wrapped the box with patterned paper and trimmed the window and added my image. The roof was a little tough, not perfectly lined up. Added a door, flowers and a moon. I used Liquid Pearls "White Opal" for added sparkle (Not happy with the results).

Tuesday Challenge - Walnut Ink Backgrounds!

This week at Tuesday Challenge is “Walnut Ink Background”. Create art using walnut ink to stamp with, to create backgrounds with or any other way your choose! Be sure to check out the Walnut Ink technique by Suzanne: Background Variation Technique.

I choose to use Walnut Brown with my Adirondack “Rust” along with my copper flakes to achieve the background! Added image and verbiage. I kept this very simple, so not to cover up the background. OK, I got a little carried away with the copper flakes! LOL!

Gothic Arch Challenge “Paper Patchwork”

Our hostess this week at Gothic Arches is Cora Harkins and she has selected the theme "Patchwork Paper". The technique used by Cora Harksins was inspired by Kelly Rae Roberts, who made the technique popular.

First I cut up strips of patterned paper and pasted them together to make a background. Then I painted over the paper background with acrylic paints “Metallic Periwinkle“. Used a wet sponge to rub off areas of paint to reveal parts of the patterned paper below. Then add my images.

Gothic Arch Challenge “Haute Couture”

Fairy - Alcohol Ink Challenge

This week “One Powerful Hour” has it's first ever Guest Designer...The Fabulous Louise from Zuzu's Petals 'n' Stuff.

She has challenged us to use Alcohol Inks on Acetate, if you don't have Transparency that's fine try out one of these other techniques. Alcohol Ink Class.

Brown is the challenge at “Wednesday Stamper”, “show which other colors you like to combine with Brown“. I combined brown with orange and gold on this ATC! Nothing surprising here! I did have a kitchen this color long time ago.

My favorite color combination with brown is blue, but now that I have seen the entries I now love brown and red together.

Using Ranger Yellow Stamp Dye Ink and Jim Holtz Distress Ink - Peeled paint. I stamped a design by Whispers - {sugarloaf products.com} and combined images and verbiage “Stop don’t look inside”. My hand was hard to create and I wish it showed up better. I kept cutting off fingers.

I love coffee, just ask the girls at the coffee shack (Java Java). I am a regular. I also love my Illy Espresso Machine and grinder! I don’t have a name for this arch. If I knew her name…I would call it “________’s Window”.

I created this arch with the help of my DH, the base is made from pine. My DH cut the board and applies a white wash finish. I attached clocks and the ladies image (image from “Somerset Studio” July/August 2008 issue).

Tuesday’s Challenge on “Created By Hand Challenge” is creating art using dragonflies. You may use anything that gives your art a dragonfly theme! Use collage images, rubber stamps, inks, embellishments, charms, paints, eyelets, ribbons, fancy papers… whatever you find to create your challenge!

I create an ATC using images and stamps. I colored my dragonflies using Prismacolor and ColorBox Brush Pad, blending colors with baby oil.
